Sick of Toxic Pesticides?

October 21, 2007

From Garden Organic : Visit PesticideWatch.EU and ask your MEP to support better legislation on pesticides.

Over the past 12 months, elected representatives from the European Parliament have been working to review Europe’s pesticide legislation. This represents a once in a generation opportunity for a major re-think of our reliance on pesticides.

In total over 1,000 amendments have been tabled – some very positive, some neutral, and others deeply worrying. On 24 October, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from all 27 EU countries will come together to determine the future of EU legislation on pesticides. Specifically they must decide which proposals are adopted, which are rejected, and which are redrafted.

Representatives of the pesticides industry have a constant presence in Brussels. And they’re working overtime to make sure the voices of pesticide manufacturers are heard!

As an EU constituent you have a voice too. And that’s why it’s vital that you make your views heard in Brussels.

If you’re sick of toxic pesticides, visit www.PesticideWatch.EU. It’s a new website supported by environmental organisations from across the European Union. Simply select your country, add your comments to the draft e-mail, and press ’send’. And we’ll e-mail your concerns to your local MEPs.

Ask your MEPs to support:

* the prioritisation of human health and the environment
* the elimination of Europe’s most toxic pesticides
* targets for conversion to low pesticide farming methods
* support for farmers in reducing pesticide use
* greater protection for vulnerable groups and rural residents
* better safeguards for European water resources

www.PesticideWatch.EU is an on-line information resource established by Pesticide Action Network Europe, and Friends of the Earth Netherlands, and is supported by a coalition of European NGOs working to promote public health and the environment.
