Too Good To WasteFurniture reuse charity Valleys Furniture Recycling - known as Too Good To Waste - has been shortlisted for the Cylch Community Recycler of the Year Award.

The Ferndale-based charity which is supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is one of three Welsh charities shortlisted as Community Recycler of the Year and volunteers are hoping plenty of local people will help them secure the first prize.

Who wins the award is down to a voting scheme which can be found on www.cylch.org or by writing to Jasmine Brown at Cylch, 113 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9PH. Voting will close at 5pm on Friday October 19th and a presentation ceremony will be held at the Marriot Hotel, Cardiff on October 24th.

Sponsored by Novelis, the largest recycler of aluminum cans in Europe, the winner of the section will receive a top prize of £2,000.

Launched in 1995, toogoodtowaste is Rhondda Cynon Taf’s most effective furniture recycling and community regeneration charity which is committed to increasing reuse and recycling, relieving the effects of financial hardship and creating training and work experience opportunities.

Last year alone 75 people supported the charity in an unpaid capacity providing 19,558 hours of effort with 19 people leaving to start paid employment. The organisation also participated in 35 community events and arranged 18 furniture roadshows for more than 800 people in 13 different communities.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Anti-Litter Champion Cllr Ann Crimmings said she was delighted with the news: “Congratulations are certainly in store for toogoodtowaste for reaching the shortlist of this prestigious award. It goes without saying that their success story so far is testimony to the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers over the years.

“On behalf of all those people who have benefited from the organisation over the past 12 years, I wish them all continued success in the future.”
